Mobile games, checked one by one

CoopPanel is a small Australian desk that keeps one short list of Android games from Google Play. Eight titles, installed and played on real phones, written up in plain language, with every rating copied straight from the Google Play listing.

§ 01

How an entry gets onto this page

Four steps, the same four every time. If a title cannot clear step three, it does not go into the index at all.

  1. 01

    Shortlist

We look past the top of the charts for smaller studios and quieter listings. A title is only considered if it is on Google Play and available in Australia.

  2. 02

    Install and play

Every game is installed on an ordinary Android handset and played for a few sessions — enough to see the first levels, the pacing and how loudly it asks for attention.

  3. 03

    Check the listing

The developer name, the rating and the number of ratings are read off the Google Play page on the day of the check, then written down exactly as shown.

  4. 04

    Write it up

Short notes: what the game actually asks you to do, who it suits, what it looks like. No score out of ten of our own invention.

The whole index at a glance — eight entries, one row. There is no second page and nothing is held back behind a sign-in.

§ 02

The catalogue — eight titles

Ratings and rating counts are copied from Google Play, checked in August 2026. They move over time; the figure on the store page is always the current one.

Cypher Games

4.5/5

165.2K ratings

A cannon, a single ball and a tower of blocks that answers to gravity. Each level rewards reading the structure before firing: aim at the wrong brick and the stack just settles, aim at the right one and the whole thing folds in on itself. Levels are short, the 3D physics does the talking, and the fun is in clearing a board with as little as possible.

4.5/5

73.1K ratings

A hybrid, and a neat one: wooden pieces are dragged onto a nine-by-nine board, then cleared the way sudoku is scored — full rows, full columns and full three-by-three squares. There is no clock pushing you along, so a session lasts exactly as long as you want it to. The board stays readable at a glance, which is most of the appeal.

You are the signaller. Tap to start and stop each train, keep the lines clear of one another and drop passengers at the right platform. Every new city adds junctions and tighter timing, so a one-touch control quietly turns into a proper routing puzzle. Bright, toy-like art and levels that fit into a tram ride.

A very long series of escape rooms — the Play listing counts 420 levels — built from hidden objects, small logic chains and combination locks. Each room is self-contained, so one room is a complete sitting and nothing is lost if you put the phone down. Hints are on hand when a puzzle refuses to budge.

Ten-pin bowling in 3D, played solo or in online frames against another player. Line up the approach, set the spin, release — the read on the lane matters more than the flick of the finger. Lanes and ball designs are themed and unlock as you go, and a full frame takes about as long as the real thing minus the shoes.

Turn-based golf against another player in real time, on holes modelled after courses such as Pebble Beach. You read the lie, judge the wind, then pull back and release to swing — a simple gesture with a lot of nuance behind it. A round is a handful of holes, which makes it a lunch-break game rather than an evening one.

A tables-and-text basketball simulation for people who like the clipboard more than the highlight reel. Pick the roster, set rotations and tactics, then follow the season play by play; you can run a club as coach and general manager, or steer one franchise player through a career. Light on animation, heavy on numbers — deliberately so.

A tiny coffee shop staffed by mice and visited by cats. You pull drinks, plate desserts, keep the queue moving and slowly redecorate the room as a light story unfolds around the regulars. § 05

How this site works

The short version: two people, eight entries, one routine that never changes. Here is the longer version, in plain terms.

Who writes the entries

A two-person editorial desk in Australia, working to the same routine every time. Each note on this page was written after the game had been installed on an ordinary Android handset and played across several sessions — never from a store description.

How a title is chosen

We favour calm, everyday genres — puzzles, small sports titles and gentle simulations — and smaller studios over whatever sits at the top of the charts. To be considered at all, a title has to be on Google Play and available in Australia.

Editorial notes stay independent

Nobody outside the desk sees an entry before it is published, and an advertising placement never changes what an entry says. The rating beside a title is not ours at all: it is the figure published on the game's Google Play listing on the day we checked it. Where an outbound link is an advertising link, it is labelled on the page.

How often the list is updated

Slowly and in batches — entries are re-checked rather than piled up, and the log further down records every change. We do not host or distribute apps and we do not run a store: every “open” button leads to the official Google Play listing. The full statement is in the terms of use.

§ 06

Get told when the index changes

Roughly one message per update — a new entry, a re-check, or a title removed from the list. Nothing else.

§ 07

Questions we are actually asked

If something here is unclear, the desk answers e-mail.

§ 08

New entries and re-checks

The desk log, newest first. Every line is a change that happened to this page.

  1. Tiny Cafe : Cooking Game icon

Tiny Cafe : Cooking Game Added

    4.5

  4. Astonishing Basketball Manager icon

Still listed in the Australian store. The note now says plainly that the game is tables and text rather than animation.

§ 09

About the desk, and what we promise

CoopPanel is a two-person editorial desk based in Australia. We publish one page, keep it short, and re-check it rather than growing it.

The idea came from a simple annoyance: lists of “best mobile games” that nobody had opened, padded to fifty entries and stitched together from store blurbs. We would rather run eight entries we can defend. Everything on this page — the notes, the genre index, the log — is written after the game has been on a real phone, and it is written in the same plain English we would use telling a friend what a game is like.

  • Played, not skimmed

No entry is written from a store description. If we could not install it in Australia and play it, it does not appear here.

  • Figures copied, never invented

Ratings and rating counts are transcribed from Google Play with the date of the check attached. We publish no score of our own.

  • Advertising kept at arm's length

Placements are page space, never sentences. Advertising links carry a label, and no advertiser sees an entry before it is published.

  • Corrections, quickly

Spotted something out of date? Write to the desk and the line gets fixed, with the change recorded in the log above.
